Title: Some Remarks on Head Movement
Place: Kromme Nieuwegracht 80 – room 1.06 / MS Teams
Date/time: 26 February 16:00-17:00
Abstract
Over the last two decades there has been considerable discussion as to whether “head movement” is a part of narrow syntax or belongs partly or wholly in the phonological component. Several suggestions have been made that it takes place (at least partly) in the syntactic component (cf. Lechner 2007, Roberts 2010), based on English subject-aux inversion, as well as Harizanov & Gribanova (2019).
This talk aims to provide additional evidence which also suggests that certain types of head movement take place in the narrow syntax in three cases: additional data from English, as well as from Kilega (Bantu), and Warlpiri (Australian).
This is a SIL talk. If you are not in the MS Teams group and would like to join, please contact the organizers.
