CRISSP-workshop “Displaced Dialects”

Displaced Dialects (DD)

November 19–20, 2026

CRISSP is proud to host the REEDS-workshop Displaced Dialects, to be held on 19–20 November 2026 in Leuven. The workshop focuses on formal, (historical) sociolinguistic, and psycholinguistic approaches to heritage dialect syntax.

This two‐day workshop brings together scholars from formal, (historical) sociolinguistic, and psycholinguistic backgrounds to discuss topics on heritage dialect syntax (or grammar more broadly). Bringing these scholars together will create possibilities to discuss novel methodologies, theoretical insights and challenges, and might enable future interdisciplinary collaborations to expand our knowledge of heritage dialect syntax, with a specific focus on the syntax of (non‐standard) varieties which are spoken in locations away from the homeland.

We are pleased to announce that the following invited speakers have agreed to give a talk at the DD-workshop:

  • Yu-Chuan Lucy Chiang (University of Michigan)
  • Andries Coetzee (University of Michigan)
  • Yasmin Crombez (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)
  • Andrea Martocchi (Università degli Studi di Milano)
  • Stefania Marzo (KU Leuven)
  • Naomi Nagy (University of Toronto)
  • Antonella Sorace (University of Edinburgh)
  • Silvia Terenghi (Utrecht University)
